Red diesel fuel fines could soon be issued to leisure boaters in the UK. The European Commission has decided to refer the United Kingdom to the Court of Justice of the European Union. This is for not correctly applying the guidelines on financial marking on red diesel fuel. Under EU instructions, fuel that can take advantage of a reduced duty rate has to be marked by coloured dye. Angling vessels, e.g., are permitted to take advantage of red diesel fuel. However private leisure vessels must use fuel that pays the normal rate of tax. White Diesel Taken In Farm Oil Raid

A large farm in Lincolnshire has had 750 litres of white diesel stolen. The theft of white diesel occurred in days leading up to the 14th January. The farm based in Little Limber had over £1,000 worth of white diesel taken from a tank in the yard. People with information should dial 101 and speak to the Lincolnshire Police about the theft. On the 14th January, between 1 and 2am, a farm in neighbouring Normanby le Wold picked up two men on their CCTV cameras walking around the farm. Derbyshire has been named as one of the regions to have seen a growth in red diesel theft in the last few years. As said by research carried out by underwriter NFU Mutual, rural offenses including central heating oil and red diesel theft has cost a total of £3.8 million in the East Midlands area alone. Statistics compiled by the firm revealed that in Lincolnshire, the price of red diesel theft equalled £1.8 million, which made it the third worst region in the nation in this respect.
