Are there any greener alternatives to heating oil?
If you’re looking to heat your home whilst lowering your emissions, there are a few options available to you if you want to carry on using your existing infrastructure.
HVO fuel, the renewable alternative to diesel and fossil heating fuels, is a viable alternative which can help to lower emissions by up to 90%. In some cases, only a minor modification to your boiler will be required before you switch to HVO. Any modifications to your heating system should be completed by an OFTEC-registered technician. The benefit to this is you get to keep your existing boiler, radiators, heating controls and everything else.
Carbon clean kerosene is a more environmentally-friendly heating oil that’s available from Nationwide Fuels. It contains anti-oxidants that help keep your boiler clean, improving efficiency by allowing your boiler to reach desired temperatures with the minimum amount of fuel.
